Cyber-Noir Finale With The Final Evolution
The last book in a good sci-fi series is, for me, a mixed blessing. On the one hand, I’ve got the last bit of the story in my hands and after that, it’s over. On the other hand, I frequently use this event as an excuse to go back and re-read the entire series, start […]

GeekDad Challenge of the Week Solution: Let?s Blow Stuff Up
And it looked so easy! But last week’s July 4 problem induced the highest number of incorrect answers I’ve seen thus far, mostly engendered by people prioritizing short overall explosion times at the expense of our poor pyrotechnician’s safety. Thanks to you, emergency rooms were busy on the 4th. Here’s a recap of the puzzle: How […]

10 apps pushing HTML5 to the limit

The basic Web application paradigm hasn’t changed in almost two decades. Even the latest, slickest HTML5 websites resemble those of the early days of the Web, at least at their core. A developer wraps tags around data and writes a bit of JavaScript to make the sites somewhat more interactive. So what’s all the big fuss over HTML5 being a game changer for apps on the Web?

The rise of cloud computing has led to a strong push from the IT leaders at many major companies for cloud standards around such things as security and data portability.

But the early push for standards is beginning to resemble a NASCAR race — everyone is is driving on the same track, but are sitting in different cars.

Droid 3 Adds a Little Muscle but Where’s the 4G Beef?
Verizon on Thursday marched out its latest Android smartphone, the Droid 3 from Motorola. The release marks the latest in a line of phones often credited with helping to revive Motorola’s strength in cellphones and giving Verizon a heavy-hitting rival to AT&T’s iPhone — before Verizon started carrying Apple’s phone as well, that is.

Nextbook Next6 eBook Reader Tablet Review
Dedicated eBook reading devices tend to fall in one of two categories: E-ink or Color. Examples of E-ink eBook readers are the Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook (the original and new Simple Touch version) and various Sony Readers. The most popular color reader is currently the Barnes & Noble Nook Color. But today I’m […]
